Born in San José del Guaviare, Colombia (1987)
Óscar Villalobos is a Colombian artist whose work reflects the intersection of personal displacement and urban experience. Born in San José del Guaviare, a region heavily affected by the Colombian armed conflict, Villalobos relocated to Bogotá at the age of 13, where his artistic journey began. His work, which often deals with the complexities of urban life and the aftereffects of displacement, uses vibrant colours and contrasts to evoke both the chaos and beauty of contemporary life. Villalobos’ pieces invite the viewer to reflect on the silent violence of everyday urban existence, portraying the struggles of those who live on the margins of society.
His series, such as Tierra Móvil and Selva en Conflicto, explore themes of environmental destruction and displacement. Villalobos is known for his portrayal of urban landscapes and free vegetation, often depicting the social and political issues of Colombia’s urban environments.
